WITH THE EVER-CHANGING DEVELOPMENTS IN EMPLOYMENT LAW, IT IS WISE TO CHECK EACH YEAR TO MAKE CERTAIN YOUR FIRM IS COMPLIANT WITH CURRENT LAWS. CONFIRM THAT YOUR ORGANIZATION HAS THE TOOLS AND RESOURCES YOU NEED TO CREATE AND IMPLEMENT SUCCESSFUL H.R. PRACTICES THAT WILL ENSURE COMPLIANCE IN 2016!

First, review all of your policies and work rules, such as:

  • Social media and blogging
  • Drug Testing
  • Safety
  • Recordings in the workplace
  • Confidentiality of wages, benefits and personal information
  • Equal Opportunity & No Harassment
  • Criminal background checks (employers must ensure compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act when conducting background checks)
  • Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) has stiff fines and even criminal penalties for noncompliance. Make sure I-9 forms are complete and your employees are legally authorized to be working in the US

One thing is for sure: we can count on change! 2015 brought several new employment law changes — shared parental leave, enhanced adoptive parental rights, ordinary parental leave extended, changes to national insurance, major changes to parental rights, statutory maternity, paternity & adoption pay increase, limits on unfair dismissal tribunal awards increase, and statutory sick pay increases — and the odds are that there will be changes in 2016, too. Prepare! And please let your recruiter at Momentum know if you need compliance or legal staff to help make sure your firm or company is in compliance.
